The Fraternal Order of Police in Minnesota will encourage the fraternal, educational, charitable, and social activities among law enforcement officers and cultivate a spirit of fraternalism and mutual helpfulness among our members and the people we serve.
The law enforcement officers of Minnesota are currently extremely well represented in the legislature through the effective lobbying efforts of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association. The F.O.P. in Minnesota has no intention of duplicating or interfering with these efforts.
Minnesota is a "collective bargaining" state. Most law enforcement agencies have negotiated acceptable working conditions for their individual departments. Even though the F.O.P. has established itself in other parts of the nation as an excellent collective bargaining organization, there is no intention to certify the F.O.P. in Minnesota as a bargaining unit. The F.O.P. does have available a wealth of information for members involved in negotiations.
The Grand Lodge has strongly recommended State and Subordinate Lodge's political activity (candidate endorsement and support) should only be considered followed by the entire membership. The political activity must be highly desirable and a direct benefit to all members of the lodges. Based on this recommendation the Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police will refrain from all political activity.
